The organization of this conference has been supported by many partner organizations such as USAID, UNICEF, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, NGOs as well as private sector actors. This conference is designed to:

  • Celebrate the progress to date
  • Share the best practices, lessons learned, and challenges
  • Identify the key steps in reaching the 2030 targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) as it relates to the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health.

This meeting will build upon the three previous Call-to-Action/ Acting-on-the-Call Conferences, specifically recalling the commitment made at the 2015 meeting in New Delhi.

Audience of the Conference:

High-level policy makers and influencers from 24 countries such as Health Ministers, representatives of International Organizations, NGOs, faith-based organizations, civil society and the private sector.

Objectives of the Conference:

  • Highlight successful approaches to increasing the use of high-impact reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health interventions (RMNCAH) with equity, quality and sustainability.
  • Increase commitment from countries, private sector and NGOs to strengthen the system required to overcome the remaining key obstacles for maternal and child survival both within and outside the health sector.
  • Demonstrate global commitment and continued momentum to move forward towards the goal of ending preventable child and maternal deaths.

Key sub-themes of the Conference:

  • Improving Quality – What is quality? How do we measure it? How does it relate to effectiveness and efficiency?
  • Achieving Equity – Ensuring equity in access to essential health services and in the social determinants of health for underserved and hard to reach populations
  • Building Resilience – Building strong health systems ensures sustainability and protects populations from the effects of natural disasters, drought, conflict and displacement
  • Effective Financing – Increasing financing and its effectiveness
  • Revolutionizing Information – Turning data into usable information

Format of the Conference:

Most of the conference will be held in plenary sessions. The opening session will focus on welcoming guests, recounting the successes thus far and setting the stage for this year’s conference. The closing session will focus on renewing and strengthening partnerships to advance the commitments made over the course of the conference. Ministers and other high-level heads of delegations will have a conclave to discuss best practices and the way forward.

The event will feature a marketplace to offer partners and organizations an opportunity to share successful projects and approaches. There will be time built into the agenda for both a high-level walk through of the marketplace as well as time for attendees to visit.
