Addis Ababa is as cosmopolitan as any of the world’s great metropolis. The city is vibrant and bursting with color, culture and life. Residents of Addis enjoy the warm weather, delicious food and soulful music that the city offers. Addis Ababa is the seat of the Central Ethiopian Government and many diplomatic missions, most notably the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).
Addis Ababa is situated at an altitude of 2,355m. Despite being near the equator, the high elevation of Addis Ababa ensures moderate temperature year-round; Addis Ababa has maximum temperature of 26 °C and minimum of 4 °C. In August, the weather is usually cold, rainy and cloudy. Delegates are advised to bring clothes convenient for the weather.
Participants will be met on arrival at Bole International Airport and be assisted with the formalities regarding immigration and customs etc. There will be shuttle buses from the airport to the respective hotels. Yellow and green meter or contract taxis are available at the airport hotels and shopping centers. However, shuttle buses between hotels and the conference venue (AU) will also be available for delegates on August 24 and 25, 2017 in the mornings and at the end of the daily sessions.

Currency: Ethiopian Birr
Ethiopian currency is denominated in “birr” and “cents”. The exchange rate fluctuates. The current official exchange rate is USD 1= ETB 23. 40
There are also authorized exchange centers (Forex bureaus) and ATM machines for Visa and MasterCard users in most 5- star and 4-star hotels that will give money in birr.
Visitors to Ethiopia should be in possession of a valid health certificate for yellow fever. Vaccination against cholera is also required for any person who has visited or transited a cholera infected area within six days prior to arrival in the country.
Addis Ababa as a city and Ethiopia at large is safe. Conference attendees should feel safe and confident that the current situation on the ground is very agreeable. We do, however, advise that guests take common sense precautions in order to ensure a safe and pleasant stay.
